Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) recently made its Immigration Detention Representation Program (IDRP) a permanent service. As a result, we are seeking more legal professionals to help us provide legal aid to unrepresented clients in immigration detention.

We have shared a message on our website with our immigration and refugee roster lawyers which describes the ways we are increasing our capacity to assist detainees. We encourage you to click the hyperlink above to review the message and consider applying to the IDRP or for one of the new staff positions. Please note you must be an existing immigration and refugee lawyer on our roster to join the IDRP as a private bar lawyer. Staff positions are open to all licensed lawyers. Clients in immigration detention may be highly vulnerable, racialized and some are dealing with mental health issues. With your help, we hope to provide more equitable and inclusive legal aid services that improve access to justice for immigrant detainees.
